Rest, ice, compression and elevation...

Day 143
7-28-2006
Started: Delavan, KS
Finished: Delavan, KS
Today's Miles: 0
Total Miles: 2055.7

When we woke up this morning Randy's leg had made no improvement from last night. We still cannot figure out what has caused him such pain and swelling. We have learned a few things on this journey about injuries and how to deal with them and possibly the most important thing we've learned is to listen to our bodies and sometimes walking through the pain is not the answer. After discussing all of our possible options we decided that rest, ice, compression and elevation would be our first steps toward improving Randy's condition. This particular injury is quite frustrating because Randy can't remember doing anything to injure his leg and feels pain as if he broke a bone. Our new friend, Warren Dix, was kind enough to drive us into the town of Herington to seek out a place where we could tend to Randy's needs the best. We found fairly inexpensive accommodations where we will stay until Randy feels strong enough to walk again. In the meantime, Sheri took advantage of the Senior Citizens bus service in town and caught a shuttle to the grocery store to acquire food to get us back on trail and feed us while we are laid up. We plan to keep a close eye on Randy's injury and hope to be back out and walking as soon as possible. For now we will continue to rest and hopefully have a quick recovery.

Your Friends on the ADT,
Randy and Sheri
