A little restructuring...
Day 155 8-9-2006 Started: Herington, KS Finished: Herington, KS Today's Miles: 0 Total Miles: 2062.0
When we woke this morning our daily evaluation of Randy's leg made the decision for us that we wouldn't be walking today. We were also waiting for our package to arrive from Randy's sister and we had no idea when UPS would make it to Herington, Kansas. We knew another day of rest certainly would not hurt with Randy's recovery. Today we added a pretty big piece of gear to our supply. Randy's sister, Renee, was kind enough to lend us her baby jogger. Much like a traditional child's baby stroller, only the wheels of the stroller are actually more like bike tires, meant to be pushed on a variety of terrain and also over long miles. We were actually planning to purchase a baby jogger later on in our journey, possibly further west when we will encounter several days without water or other supplies. The jogger would allow us to pack out several extra gallons of water which we could not possibly add to the packs on our backs. So, our logic for pushing the stroller now will serve a couple of purposes. One, water supplies in Kansas are definitely getting further apart as we move further west, so the "jogger" will allow us to carry an extra supply that will most definitely help us with the over 100 degree days that we will be facing over the next couple of weeks. Also, we're thinking we can put some of the heavier pieces from our packs into the "jogger" which will lighten both of our backpacks. We are also hoping that a lighter pack will help Randy's injury to continue to heal as we move west. While we wait for our package to arrive we are continuing to care for Randy's injured leg the best we know how, and plan to head west very soon. We cannot say thank you enough to our families for their amazing "trail magic" and to all of our friends who have sent us encouraging words. You all will be seeing new entries soon of our adventures as we continue to explore America.
