Enjoying "Colorful Colorado"...
Day 179 9-2-2006 Started: Outside Lamar, CO Finished: Outside Las Animas, CO Today's Miles: 18.0 Total Miles: 2466.0
Were we ever happy to have a roof over our heads last night. We were graced yet again with severe thunderstorms that brought several inches of rain to the area. We so thoroughly enjoyed listening as the drops of rain tapped on the top of the "bullet's" roof as we laid comfortably under sheets and blankets inside. We all decided to sleep in this morning since Dad Wiest and Lynn drove three very long days to get to us, and we have had a few wet and restless nights ourselves. Dad Wiest and Lynn have decided to function half on Eastern time and half of Mountain time while they are here, since they are still running Dad Wiest's business from the road. So, when we woke this morning and the clock read 12:00pm, it was really only 10:00 in our world. In any case, we enjoyed a nice lazy morning and a delicious breakfast on the "bullet". Late in the afternoon we drove back to where we stopped walking yesterday and got a few miles under our feet. We came upon the small town of Hasty, just in time for a late lunch break and enjoyed meeting Joy, while we sat outside and enjoyed a bite to eat. Joy is from Oklahoma and was very interested to hear about our journey. She had us write her address down and asked us to send her a picture from the California coast when we arrive. We enjoyed our early evening miles as the temperatures began to drop and numerous thick, puffy, white clouds hid the glare of the sun. Dad Wiest and Lynn picked us up just before the sun had set and had already scouted out a good local spot to eat dinner. We enjoyed a nice authentic Mexican Meal in La Junta at Felica's, and of course indulged in a couple of tasty frozen cocktails. Colorado is a new state for all four of us and we are hoping to explore some new territory while Dad Wiest and Lynn are visiting. The temperatures are due to drop into the lower 50's tonight, so we will once again enjoy our comfortable bed under warm blankets. We can't thank Dad Wiest and Lynn enough for traveling more than half way across the country to be with us in Colorado on our journey. We look forward to sharing another great day with them tomorrow in the "Colorful Colorado" sunshine.
