Endless Beaches In Ocean Shores, Washington
The great majority of people visit the coast to enjoy the beaches. A little discovered area where there seem to be a huge variety of beaches is Ocean Shores, Washington. This ocean side city in Grays Harbour County is located on a tiny cape that separates the bay from the open ocean. There are miles of undulating sandy shores for picnics, kite flying, pony back riding, clam digging, and beach searching. You will discover a huge array of sea shells, sand bucks and multi-colored pebbles all seasons of the year. Stacks of wood from all over the world are dredged up in the storms and you could be to find some piece of an old sunken ship. If you have always dreamed about riding a pony next to the ocean, you'll find 1 or 2 stables that bring horses to the primary access areas for rent across the summer and fall. There is an area chosen just for dogs so you can allow your pet to run and play in the surf without a leash.
There are bicycle, surrey and moped rentals adjacent to to the main entry and it's fun to view the families riding out as a group. The roads have bicycle lanes throughout the town area for safe wheeling.
On the main road entering the community there's a surf shop that leases wetsuits and surfboards by the day or by the hour. If you don't know how to surf, you can take a lesson from them. While the best waves are in winter, beginners should plan on taking instruction in the summer when things are not quite so wild. Skim boards could be a fun way to enjoy the fringe of the surf without the danger of learning the rip tides and under tows.
Many people congregate at Damon Pt. State Park at the south east end of the cape looking for the variety of agates that can be found in this location. The agates range in colour from pale gold to deep orange or carnelian red and somebody even found a big blue agate which is considered quite valuable. The scale of the agates can be as small as what you would use in a ring to palm size treasures. Surfing and fishing are popular sports in this area and some days you may be rewarded with the stunning colours of chutes gliding on the bay side when the windsurfers turn out.
As well as the sea there could be over 23 miles of inteconnected canals and lakes for kayak enthusiasts, canoe paddlers and motor-boats. There are interconnected lakes, canals and even moss dripping channels that remind one of a bayou. Many parks along the lakes provide docks and beach areas for fishing as well as huge grassy expanses for picnics and games.
Ocean Shores even has a temperate rainforest preserve in the middle of the peninsula which has many routes to enjoy the mossy covered branches and thick undergrowth of ferns and grasses. Wherever you go along the forest areas there are a lot of wild animals including a surplus of deer.
There's lots to do in this ocean haven with unique shops, bakery restaurants skate board park, golfing course, miniature golfing, bowling alley, flick theater and fun center. This is a place with entertainment for all ages and if the year round commercial center is not enough, there's sometimes a fair, musical event or enjoyable pastime of some sort almost every month of the year.
The 4th of July here is one of the most notable events anywhere as thousands of people gather to set off fireworks along the entire length of beaches, together with paid fireworks by two cities and a casino.
If there's anything anybody wants to find or needs to understand about the area, they can go to the Convention Center to get a very helpful Visitors Center with maps, brochures and folks to answer questions. The people in Sea Shores are friendly and welcome tourists with a smile. If you've been looking for a unique, low key beach area, you might find Sea Shores, Washington is a great destination.
