Nevada: A Virtual Hike of the ADT

Nevada was the 36th state to enter the union and the 12th hiking state on our ADT hike. Nevada's nickname is "The Silver State", and the state motto is "All for Our Country". Nevada is the driest state in the country and known for its rugged, snow capped mountains and sandy desserts. Nevada takes its name from a Spanish word meaning snow-clad. Nevada has more mountain ranges than any other state, with its highest point at the 13,145 foot top of Boundary Peak near the west-central border. Utah: A Virtual Hike of the ADT

Utah's admission to the union was January 4, 1896 as the 45th state. Utah is the 11th state we will hike through. The state is famous for its natural scenery and a major tourist destination for its ski resorts and national parks. The name Utah comes from the Native American Ute tribe and means people of the mountains. Colorado: A Virtual Hike of the ADT

Colorado is the 10th state along our hike, and the 38th state admitted to the union in 1876. Colorado is well known as the home of the highest points of the Rocky Mountains. Colorado was named after the Spanish word "Colorado", meaning reddish colored. It is believed to refer to the red sandstone formations of the Colorado River. Our hike through the Centennial State followed large portions of the American Discovery Trail with some alternate routing due to severe weather conditions. Kansas: A Virtual Hike of the ADT

The Sunflower State will offer over 570 miles of ADT. Most of the route through Kansas will follow the steps of the pioneers along the Santa Fe Trail. Kansas was admitted to statehood January 29, 1861, as the 34th state of the union. Show Me the "Show Me State". Missouri will continue the Southern Midwest route with 329 miles of ADT. We will follow the famous footsteps of Lewis and Clark as we attempt to make our own "discovery" of America. The Southern Midwest route will continue into Illinois, the "Prairie State". The hilly terrain is in an area known as the Illinois Ozarks and contains nearly 300 miles of the ADT. Our hike through the "Crossroads of America" will be on the 357 miles of Indiana's southern ADT section. Ohio: A Virtual Hike of the ADT

With over 500 miles of ADT our hike through Ohio took us from steep ridgeline hiking to riverside strolls. We enjoyed every step in the Buckeye State and found lifelong friends we will never forget. The twisting and turning Buckeye Trail led us across the southern portion of the state and into the big city of Cincinnati. West Virginia: A Virtual Hike of the ADT

The American Discovery Trail in West Virginia reaches it's highest elevation east of the Rockies, just over 4,000 feet. The 287 miles of West Virginia ADT are extremely diverse and definitely deserve to be nicknamed the "Mountain State". We really enjoyed our hike through West Virginia, partly due to our love for the mountains, but mostly because of the connections we made with the incredible people of the “Wild” and “Wonderful” state. Our ADT terrain in Maryland follows rural routes past small farm towns and villages along the Chesapeake Bay. The trail goes across the top of our nations capital, Washington D.C. and then picks up the C&O Canal. The ADT has over 272 miles of terrain in Maryland.
