Take care of your feet and your feet will hopefully take care of you. We will certainly go through more than one pair of hiking shoes on the over 5,000 miles of American Discovery Trail. Different terrain will require different levels of support, tread and style of shoe. We will continue to update our shoe selections as the miles go by.
When Backpacking it is important to carry clothing that allows you to control your body temperature in a wide range of environmental conditions. A system of layers can act as a thermostat for the body allowing you to add or subtract layers as the elements dictate.
A warm meal is priceless on long distance hikes. Reliable and lightweight equipment can make food preparation much quicker and easier.
While Long Distance Backpacking you must carry everything you "need" with you every step of the way. We also carry a few things that we will "want" with us along the way. This article will describe some of the "wants" we will be carrying with us.
