Weather Observations
Describing how Randy and Sheri are making their daily weather observations.

Topic: Weather Instruments

Objectives:
1. Students should be able to match a particular piece of weather data to the instrument used to obtain it.
2. Students should be able to explain what creates wind chill and heat stress index, and the health concerns these can produce.

Randy and Sheri are using the Kestrel 3000 Weather Meter to gather most of their weather data. This instrument is actually a combination of many weather instruments. See if you can match the instrument to the condition it measures below:

Instruments
anemometer
barometer
physchrometer
thermometer
wind vane

Weather Condition
temperature
relative humidity
wind direction
wind speed
air pressure

Two other very important conditions for our hikers are wind chill (which is the combined effects of _______ and ________), and heat stress index (which is a combination of ________ and _______).
Discuss why these factors may create concerns for our hikers.
