Ohio's southern border is defined by the Ohio River as a shoreline border. Ohio also borders the state of Pennsylvania on the east, Michigan in the northwest, Ontario, Canada across Lake Erie to the north, Indiana to the west, Kentucky to the south, and West Virginia to the southeast.
