Equipment in the Field
Category : Monitoring Equipment
The Interactive 'Field Trip' we are hoping to create will require us to maintain accurate records of our observations in the field, and be able to communicate those records to the students involved in the 'Field Trip'. This article will display the equipment we will use from the trail, the equipment that will enable you to 'discover' as we 'discover'....

MONITORING EQUIPMENT

The 'Virtual Field Trip' we are attempting to create will enable you to experience an on-the-scene feel while 'discovering' the many points of interest you can be exposed to while thru-hiking the American Discovery Trail.

Each morning we will use our hp iPAQ Pocket PC to update our Treck USA pages and send an E-Mail to Mr. Steele's Earth Science Classroom.

We hope to offer you a daily opportunity to take a 'field trip'.

The Updates will contain our Field Research and Data and our Daily Readings from the previous days adventure on the ADT. Mr. Steele's students will use the information as a starting point for their 'Virtual Field Trip'. They will also upload their research information to Treck USA, creating this interactive experience.

Our Field Research and Data will consist of Journal type entries and will catalog the points of interest we enounter throughout our hike.

Our Daily Readings will be made up of information we record with our Kestrel 3000 Pocket Weather Meter.

Our weather meter will be able to record accurate readings detailing Temperature, Wind Speed, Wind Direction, Wind Chill, Humidity, Heat Stress and Dew Point.

We will use our Lance 4 Watch to get accurate compass readings and measure the Barometric Pressure.

The Daily Readings will also include accurate Longitude and Latitude coordinates used to pinpoint our Location, recorded with our Magellan Sportrak GPS.

Daily Interactions from the field will enable you to DISCOVER as we DISCOVER

Our daily field updates will also be represented in our Photo Gallery. We will be taking photographs with the Olympus Stylus 600, a great weather sealed camera. The Photographs corresponding with our 'discoveries' will be updated as often as possible in an East to West progression, once again creating a 'discover' as we 'discover' experience.
