Most of West Virginia falls within the Appalachian Plateau province.

West Virginia can be divided into four physiographic provinces. Most of the state lies within the Appalachian Plateau province with the Allegheny Front forming its eastern border. As you move east of the Allegheny Front you will enter successively the Valley and Ridge, Great Valley, and Blue Ridge provinces.
