Colorado is the 10th state along our hike, and the 38th state admitted to the union in 1876. Colorado is well known as the home of the highest points of the Rocky Mountains. Colorado was named after the Spanish word "Colorado", meaning reddish colored. It is believed to refer to the red sandstone formations of the Colorado River. Our hike through the Centennial State followed large portions of the American Discovery Trail with some alternate routing due to severe weather conditions. The total length of the combined northern and southern routes through Colorado is 1,153 miles. To learn more about our route click on the links in our Virtual Hike of Colorado....
